Reality Check

So I've realized that I'm a horrible blogger. All of my followers probably realized this a long time ago, and for that I'm sorry.

I really wanted to update this blog every week because I think it would be cool to be able to document my life in college, but to be honest with you I just never think about it. There are so many times where I was sitting in my dorm with nothing to do, but I never thought to update my blog.

Anyway, on to the actual like college stuff haha.

I screwed up REALLY bad my first semester. I was more focused on my social life than my grades, and it showed. I went into the semester thinking that I would be able to treat college like high school and bullshit my way through everything. Before you start thinking that I was a slacker, let me just say that I graduated with a 3.78 and I got a 29 on my ACT.

Technically speaking, I did slack a lot because I put things off until the last minute and only did the work that I had to, but I was able to get good grades because I found high school really easy. I found out – too late – that I couldn’t treat college the same way. I thought that I would be able to go out every weekend and party or do whatever and still find the time to study and keep my grades up. I did fine for the first couple of weeks, but then I started slipping. My test grades started getting worse, and my ambition to do anything was too.

Let me tell you right now: I know that partying sounds fun and like the thing that every college student does, but make sure you don't let it get out of hand. I wouldn't say that my partying was out of hand, because I was still going to class and doing the work, but it definitely took it's toll.

After I saw my GPA for this semester I cried. I was so upset about how bad that I did because I've always done really well. In high school I was an A and B student, but my first semester I was a C student. I've never gotten a C in a class in my life! And I didn't just get Cs, in my math class I got a D. That means that I have to retake the class to go on to the next one.

Now I don't want you to think that it was just the partying that made my grades so bad. Yes it played a roll in it, but there were some other things too. I don't know if any of you have heard of ratemyprofessor.com (it's awesome, check it out if you haven't), but 2 out of my 3 professors were called GPA killers by people on the site. I'm not trying to make excuses or anything, but if a lot of people say that I think my professors deserve a little bit of the blame.

I came out of this semester with a 1.85 GPA. To anybody that's horrible, but the credit balance of my classes had something to do with it. When I started the semester I was taking fourteen credits, but because of a problem with one of my professors, I had to drop one of my credits. That took me down to ten credits.

After I dropped the class I had three classes: A one credit class, a four credit class, and a five credit class. In my one credit class I got a B, in my five credit class I got a C, and in my four credit class I got a D. So technically I only got one C and one D, but because of the way classes are with credits and such it's like I got five Cs and four Ds.

The one good thing is that I'll be taking more credits next semester, so hopefully I'll do better and I'll be able to bring my GPA up significantly.

So, on a lighter note: It's almost the new year! This past year I made a new year's resolution to not drink pop the entire year. Besides a few accidents where I grabbed the wrong glass or took a drink of something that I didn't know had pop in it, I lasted the whole year. I'm really proud of myself for sticking with it (it's the first time I've ever actually stuck with a new year's resolution), and I've decided to make another resolution this year.

This year my new year's resolution is going to be a lot harder than this past year. I'm going to try not to eat fast food, stop partying so much (not entirely because I think a little partying is fine), and get better grades. That's a lot, but I think I can do it. The hardest one is going to be the fast food because Taco Bell is one of my favorite late night drunk snacks. I'm also going to try to work out and update this blog more. I really want to get in shape because I'm going to try to get on the soccer team next fall, and I also really want to document my college experience. Hopefully I'll be able to stick with everything, but we'll see. =)

Just a Word of Advice

Don't try to do a blog in college.

It's not something you think about on a day to day basis, and then when I do think about it I feel bad because I say I'm going to update every week, but then it's been like 2 weeks since the last time I posted. < that was a really bad runon sentence... sorry haha.

Usually the only time I think about this blog is when I'm sitting in my room bored.... Like right now.

Today I've been out of my bed for a total of like maybe an hour to go get food. This whole week has been kind of blah. I haven't really done much of anything. I'm not sick or anything, I just feel really tired and don't want to do anything.

I went home this past weekend to get my Halloween costume. I don't remember if I told you guys before or not, but my costume is really boring. I don't have any money, so my costume is a "princess". Basically I'm just wearing an old formal dress and heels with my tiara from homecoming.

Ok. So I'm going to try really hard to update this after this weekend. I always want to talk about what I did over the weekend, but I don't always like talking to people that I know. A blog is kind of like my way of talking about my weekend without knowing the people I'm telling. I just usually forget about my blog until like halfway through the week when I'm over my weekend and looking forward to the next one.

I feel like the way I talk on this blog makes me seem like a total party girl, which in one way I kind of am, but that's not completely true. I always talk about my weekends and never talk about the during the week stuff. I mostly just do that because I feel like it's boring. Like who's going to care what my Chemistry professor was talking about in lecture today?

The title of this blog is "My Life in College" though, so I probably should start talking about that stuff.

Right now though I have to get ready for class. (yes I actually go to classes) I normally would just save this and promise myself to finish it later, but this is already a long post and, to tell the truth, I'd probably forget about it later. (that's what usually happens)

So, until the next time I get on (I'm going to try to make it after this weekend but I'm not going to promise anything because I might forgert), have fun guys =)

Crazy Weekend

This past weekend was a crazy one.

For starters, Thursday night I went to the "club" in town. Technically it's a bar, but it's the closest thing to a club that this place has. Basically it's just a place to go to dance and have a good time.

Anyway, while I was there I danced with this guy who was pretty cute. We exchanged numbers and he texted me after I left to make sure I got home ok (cute right?).

He texted me again Friday asking if I wanted to hang out so I said sure. We wound up watching a movie at his place. Surprisingly, he didn't try anything while I was over there. We actually sat and watched the movie and talked. I'm really glad he didn't try anything, because after talking for a while, I realized he wasn't that interesting, and I completely lost any interest I had in him. That probably sounds really bad, but you guys have to understand that this kid was soooooo boring to talk to.

So Friday night, I went to a party. It was really fun. The house was tiny, but there were so many people! I love being around people when I'm drunk. Like, I like being around people normally, but when I get drunk I get even more social, so I have a lot of fun at big parties.

While I was there, I played beer pong for the first time. I was not very good at it. I think I got one ball in the entire game.

The first crazy part of my weekend happened at that party too....

Ok. So when I'm drunk, I like to smoke, so I wanted to go outside so I could do that. Well my friend Artelle was standing like right by me so I was like, "Hey will you come outside with me so I can smoke?!", so he came outside with me. Well, he like walked me over to beside the house where there were no people and started trying to make out with me and get me to give him a hand job. I wasn't about to let that happen. 1. I don't really talk to him that much and he kind of seems like he could be an ass hole, and 2. I'm just not into him like that. I mean yeah, he's attractive, but no.

Anywhoozle, when we left the party we decided to go to Taco Bell, and I'm pretty sure they were like on the verge of kicking us out. It was bad.

Pretty much the entire day Saturday I layed around and did nothing and then that night I went to a party at one of the big frats we have on campus. I was having a really good time drinking and dancing. I danced with like 4 different guys, and it was really fun. I like to dance like a lot when I'm drunk, so it was definitely my kind of party.

Anyway, the last guy I danced with, I was having a really good time (and he was pretty cute), but he said that he had to leave soon. Me being my drunk self, I kept asking him if he had to leave yet. The bad thing about that is when I'm drunk, I don't realize how close to people I'm getting, so I'm pretty sure he thought I was coming on to him. Well when he did go to leave, he like started trying to make out with me! It was really crazy. Like I would've had no problem with kissing him except that I'm not a huge fan of pda and we were in like the middle of the dance floor.

I felt really bad cuz I pushed him away, but it was really weird for me cuz I'm not used to that sort of stuff....

Anyway, yeah that was my weekend. I meant to post this like Monday, but I kind of forgot about it until now when I'm getting ready to go out. I think I'm going to start sitting down either Sunday or Monday night and posting these so that the weekend is still fresh in my mind.

This week was a fun one, but I'll tell you about that in the next post ;) keep a look out for it. =)

Yeah... Sorry

So When I started this blog, I really wanted to update it at least every week. Apparently I'm really bad at that.

I'm going to try really hard to keep it updated now though.

So let's see. In the past few weeks since I last updated you guys  there really hasn't been that much that has happened.

I've gone out a couple of times to parties and I went home for my high school's homecoming.

I know that's probably pretty lame that I'm not explaining what I've been doing (that's the point of a blog right?) but honestly it's really hard to keep track of what happened what weekend and I probably wouldn't remember most of the stories anyway.

One thing I am going to talk about though is my classes. (I know right. Who knew you actually had to go to class in college?!)

Anyway. My classes right now aren't quite going the way I would like them to. Right now I'm taking Math, Biology, and Chemistry. My math class is going okay except for the fact that my professor is like 90 years old and about to keel over and die. Other than that though, math is going good. I had my first "exam" and got a 724% which probably doesn't sound the greatest, but grades in college are different so I'm okay with it.

On the other hand, my Biology and Chemistry classes aren't going that great. For my biology, I'm just really lazy and hate biology, so I've kind of been putting off doing all of the work that the teacher assigns. It doesn't really matter that I'm not doing it because she doesn't collect or grade any of it, but it's hurting my grade and I really need to start doing the work.

So quick story. In high school, I took an Introduction to Chemistry course, but never took actual chemistry. Even though I didn't take a high school chemistry class, I got a really good score on the science portion of the ACT, so I got placed into my Chemistry class here based on that.

Well anyway, I haven't been doing so hot in my chemistry class. Honestly, I barely even understand what is going on in that class. Well, I had an exam and I didn't really want to study that much. I realize that I probably should have studied because I was having trouble, but I never studied in high school and I didn't really know where to start. I tried studying a couple of times, but I wound up not studying at all until the day of the test. (the test was at 6, so I had pretty much all day to study)

Because I was having trouble, I was hoping to at least pass. I figured I wouldn't do much better than that. When I saw that I go a 72% I was so excited.

But yeah. Moral of the story is: STUDY!

I would've failed horribly if I hadn't studied for that chemistry exam. College is a lot tougher than high school, and it's almost impossible to pass your classes if you don't spend some time studying.

I promise my next post will be more interesting. After all, today is Friday which means the parties start tonight. ;D

It's About to Get Crazy

So I promised when I started this blog that I would talk about anything and everything that I did while in college. Well this weekend, the first thing happened that I'm not too excited to talk about.

I went home this weekend, which I already talked about, and I just got back yesterday afternoon. Well, I hung out with some friends, and we decided to drink. We didn't drink that much (like I barely even felt buzzed) so it wasn't really that big of a deal.

After a while, a few of my other friends and I decided to smoke (yes, I do smoke marijuana on occasion, don't judge me for it) [can I get in trouble for saying that? I sure hope not....]

Anyway, so we smoked. It's actually kind of a funny story, because we were like sitting behind some trees not too far outside our hall and also kind of close to where the dumpsters are, and someone like came outside to throw their trash away. Well one of the kids that I was with got super freaked out and took off like as soon as they heard the guy coming. It was kind of funny. He was gone like so fast....

Anyway, not the point of the story.

So I was high, and pretty much everyone had gone to bed. So I went down to one of my friend's room down the hall. We talked for a while and then we decided to watch a movie. (I think it was called like Ali G in da House or something like that.....) Him and his roommate lofted their beds, so I was sitting on his roommate's bed and he was laying in his bed with his head by mine.

When the movie got over, I tried to steal his pillow (he has memory foam pillows and their awesome!) but he wouldn't let me. He said that he'd share it with me but I couldn't steal it. So he like laid down and told me to come share it with him. So I laid down with him and we cuddled for a while, and let's just say that after a while, a little more than cuddling happened.....

But yeah. Not one of my proudest moments (although I will say that he is quite attractive ;] ), but what are ya gonna do. I can't take it back.

So yaaaa.... First somewhat embarrassing story shared =D. Let's just hope that it's the only one like that. I'm not saying that I completely regret it, but that's not the type of person that I usually am, and I don't want to turn into that type of person.

Home for the Weekend

This weekend was my first weekend coming home. Last weekend my mom came up and visited so it hasn’t been that long since I saw my mom, but it was nice to get home and see her. It was also nice seeing some of my friends that I haven’t been able to see in a while.

My high school does a “pink hawk” football game where people in the community can sponsor jerseys to commemorate family members that have lost their battle with cancer, or for people who have survived or are currently battling cancer. All of the players wear pink jerseys with the sponsored name on them. Before the game, the cancer survivors or the ones who lost their battle’s family members are introduced with the player who is playing for them. At the end of the game, the players take off their jerseys and give them to their sponsors. The game is a really big deal in my community, and this year it was an even bigger deal for me and my family, because we just recently lost my grandmother to breast cancer.

That game was the main reason I came home this weekend. It was good to be home, but at the same time it was sad because of what the reason was. Being at the pink hawk festivities was fun until they started the walk before the football game. I broke down. I was crying so hard, and it made me want to leave. We were going to sponsor a jersey this year for my grandma, but we decided not to because we didn’t think that our family would be able to deal with it yet. I’m really glad we decided not to, because my mom and I had a hard enough time and I can’t imagine how hard it would have been for my grandpa.
Being gone from Ferris this weekend has made me realize just how much I love it up there. I miss it so much, and I’ve only been gone for 2 days. I can’t wait to get back up there and see everybody again. I just left to head back up there.

I’m riding back up with my friend Manny who went to high school with me. He’s quite the character, but ya gotta love him.

Only 21/2 more hours and I'll be back =D

MIA

So my intention with this blog was to post at least a couple of times a week and just talk about what college was like and the stuff I was going through.

So far that's kind of failed. It's not my fault though!

I had every intention of doing just that, but then literally THE day before I moved up here my computer broke, and I just got it back today.

To make up for it, I'm gonna do a kind of catch up post talking about what I've been doing so far.....

To start off: I love college. The freedom is awesome, and the people are even better. I made so many friends like the second day I was here. All of the people that I've met so far have been really cool, and I'm really happy about the people I live near.

My classes so far haven't been that bad. I know they'll get harder and I'll start to hate them as the semester goes on, but for right now I'm happy with them.

Last weekend was my first weekend in college, and of course I partied. I went out with my roomate and a bunch of her friends, and they weren't the greatest parties that I've ever been to (we went to 2). I guess I should explain that my roommate is African American, and so were all of her friends that I went out with. I'm not trying to be racist or anything, but it's really uncomfortable going to parties where you're the only white one there. I mean don't get me wrong, I had fun, but it was definitely a different experience for me. I come from a school where I graduated with one black kid, and there were only like four or five in my entire school.

This weekend was the holiday weekend so a lot of people went home. We also had Monday off of classes.

Since pretty much everybody that I hang out with went home, it was a pretty boring weekend. I wound up going out Friday night with some of the people from the floor below me, but the party that we went to was super lame and I didn't even drink. After that party I came home and changed (I was wearing a super short dress and was super uncomfortable) and went to a party at Pike house (a fraternity on campus) with some other friends. Pike apparently usually has really good parties, but by the time I got there it was slowing down and most people had stopped drinking, so I didn't drink there either.

There was one kid there who was staying with the guy down the hall from me, so I was talking to him while we were at the party. He was super drunk, but it was fun talking to him. I wound up walking back from the party with that guy and the guy he was staying with, and at some point during the walk the kid decided that I told him he could stay in my room (I don't know when that happened, but for some reason he was completely convinced that he would be staying in my room...)

Anyway, we get back to the hall and my room was before theirs, so as soon as I walked to my door he like pushed his way in. He tried to climb up on my loft and wound up hitting his head on the ceiling and pulling it away from the wall about 6 inches. After that I made him go back to his friend's room.

I found out Saturday that my friend that lives across the hall from me got busted with alcohol in his room that night so he won't be drinking any time soon. He also got super sick, so that kind of made him decide to back off too.

Saturday night I went out with my friends Nick, Tyler, and Randi (Randi's a girl) to Shooters (the bar/dance club that all the college kids go to). It was really fun. We danced and just hung out and had a good time. It totally proved that you can have fun without doing anything illegal.

I guess that's about as caught up as I can get...

Sorry this post is super long and boring with no pictures or anything, but next time it'll be better... and shorter....

Time to Go!

I leave in the morning. It just doesn't seem possible that it's already time to go. The nervousness is finally hitting me now.

Up until this point I've been really excited- don't get me wrong I'm still really excited- but now I'm super nervous to leave. I think it's because up until now I've been able to say, "Oh I'm not leaving for a month" or "I still have a week until I leave." But now I can't say that. First thing tomorrow morning (we're leaving at 7 ugh) I'm leaving for college. Everything is loaded in my car, and all that's left to do is pack up what I have to use tonight and in the morning, put my bike on the bike rack, and we're gone.

It still doesn't seem possible.

I finally cried though. I was doing good and totally wasn't going to cry, but then my mom said this thing that she used to say when I was little and it made me cry. We had this thing where one of us would say "Goodnight, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite," and then the other one would join in and say "If they do bite them back." It's kind of silly, but yah know....

I cried again standing in my room. I was packing up the last few things that I can for tonight- I hadn't really stopped crying yet from the whole bed bugs thing- and I burst out in tears again.

My sister and I share a room, so it's not like my room is completely empty, but looking around the room I couldn't believe how empty it looked. All of my pictures and posters are down off the walls and all of my stuff is taken off the shelves and dresser. It's a weird feeling knowing that tonight is the last time I'll be sleeping in my room. I mean yeah, I'll come back in the summer and on holiday and stuff, but my mom is taking my bed out (we have bunk beds- mine is the top) so now whenever I come back either me or my sister will be sleeping on the couch.

I think that's the best way to explain how I feel right now: weird. I don't really know what else sums it up. I'm excited and sad and nervous and anxious all at the same time. I'm anxious to leave, but I don't want to at the same time. I'm excited to move in, but at the same time I'm extremely nervous. (If my whole roommate thing stays the way it is right now it'll be the first time I've had my own room since my sister was born)

I have to say though... I think excitement wins out against all the other feelings. I am so excited to get out and be on my own. I'm looking forward to all the new friends I'll make and all the new things that I'm going to do.

Let's just hope I don't get too carried away....

Pens, Paint and Packing

There is less than a week until I move in to my dorm. I still can't believe that it's that close. The longest I've ever spent away from my mom is 2 weeks, so it's going to be quite a change for me. On top of that, I've never been to a school with more than 500 people (and that's in my whole school not just my class), so it's going to be a huge change going to a university. This week is going to be super crazy. On top of having to pack, I still have last minute shopping to do, and I have to sand and paint the wood for my loft.

I started the painting process today, and let me tell you:it sucks! I thought that it would be quick and easy to get it done, but it takes FOREVER! I started painting around I think 5 o'clock today, and I was painting until almost 10. And I'm only half way done! That means I still have 5 more hours worth of painting to do! I am so not looking forward to having to finish that tomorrow.

The packing process is going much better. I have almost everything packed that I'm taking with me. My mom got boxes for me from her work, so I didn't have to worry about what to use, and I have I think 3 boxes full so far. I got all of my clothes and shoes that I won't be wearing this week packed into one box, and I'm planning on just shoving the rest of them into a duffel bag or a small box Thursday night. I have all of my stuff for my dorm (minus the few last minute things that I have to get) packed up and ready to go in another box and all of the stuff that wouldn't fit into that box is shoved into another.

I really feel like I'm bringing way too much stuff. I don't know if I'm going to have enough room for all of it. I'm planning on unpacking and putting away as much of it as I can my first week and then just bring back what ever I don't have room for.

Gahh!!! I still can't believe that move in day is this Friday!!!

Speaking of moving in, since Kelsey can't go to Ferris anymore, her dad won't be coming up to help us move in. That would be fine except for he was going to help us put together our lofts. Now my mom and I have to do it ourselves. It seems simple enough, but I'm hoping that it's as easy as he made it out to be. If not, my friend Manny is just a floor below me so I can ask him for help, but I'd rather not have to.

Bail Out

My friend Kelsey and I have been planning on being roommates since we both found out we're going to Ferris. We had everything planned. We were going to build our lofts and paint them neon green and blue. We'd figured out who was bringing what, and were all set to move in next Friday. Then yesterday she found out that she didn't get as much financial aid as she thought she was going to. That meant that she either had to take out a loan or not go to Ferris.

She decided that she didn't want the burden of a loan, so now she's going to live at home and go to a community college. I understand why she made the choice that she did, and I'm not mad at her for it, but it kind of sucks for me. For one thing, she was bringing a lot of the stuff that we need for our room because she already had a lot of it. She was bringing our fridge, TV, mirror, fan, shower shelves, and had a truck to haul up the wood for our lofts. Now I have to rush around and figure out where I'm going to get all that stuff before Friday. It wouldn't be as bad if it had been a little sooner, but the fact that she found this out literally a week before we were supposed to move in sucks.

On top of not having a lot of stuff, now I also have to worry about who my roommate is going to be. It's getting down to the wire, and I'm pretty sure that most people have been matched up with their roommate for a while now, so the person that I get paired with is just going to be random. I'm kind of hoping that I just won't get a new roommate and I'll get to have the whole room to myself. That would be awesome.

Another thing that really sucks about losing her as my roommate is that she was someone that I trusted. We had already talked about looking out for each other at parties and stuff so now I don't have that either. I'm kind of nervous about not having her there for me, but one
of my guy friends from football is going to Ferris too so we're going to be party buddies.

I'm still really excited to move in on Friday. Right now I'm camping with my grandpa, so as soon as I get back the last minute dorm shopping and packing will start.

I know right now this probably isn't the most interesting stuff to read about, but I haven't even gotten to college yet. I'm sure once I get there it will get a whole lot better =D.

Getting Ready

Since I just decided to make this blog and am moving in in a week, I'm not really going to cover the whole applying to college process and all that. I know that it's a huge part of college or whatever, but I have a horrible memory so I don't think my recollection of what I went through would be the greatest. I'll just start with orientation and the dorm shopping experience...

The summer after my senior year, I had to work an internship for a program that I was in during high school. This meant working from 8-4:30 Monday through Friday for almost six weeks. In other words, I had an extremely short amount of time to get ready to move out. I did however take a day off for orientation.

I had always imagined orientation being a huge deal. Like I would go there and meet a ton of new people and start to make friends. In reality, it was very structured and I didn't really meet anyone. I got there at 8 o'clock that morning, checked in, took my picture for my ID, sat through a presentation, signed up for classes and then left. I did go to orientation the same day as my roommate, so I got to hang out with her.

I guess I should probably explain my roommate situation... Me and my friend Kelsey from school are going to be rooming together. We've been playing soccer together since we were about 6 years old, and we're going to be majoring in the same thing (Forensic Biology). It works out really well because we'll be taking a lot of the same classes so we can help each other out with stuff. I'm also really looking forward to knowing my roommate beforehand because we don't have to worry about getting along or anything.

Anyway...

Before we even went in to sign up for classes, the people at Ferris picked out certain classes for us that we couldn't change. I already had my Chemistry, Biology, and Math class taken care of, but then they made us sign up for an additional 2 classes. Once I signed up for those 2 classes, I had a total of 17 credit hours which is a ton. There is no way I am going to be able to keep up with 17 credit hours in my first semester of college, so I am definitely dropping one of my classes as soon as I can. Once I drop the class I will have 14 credit hours which I think is much more manageable than 17.

Once orientation was over, Kelsey and I started talking about our dorm. We had to sign up for a room assignment before we went to orientation, so we already knew who our suite mates were going to be and what hall we were in. The only things we had to deal with were our beds and everything else we wanted to put in our room.

We decided that we wanted to loft our beds, and we wanted them to look awesome. Instead of buying the loft kit from Ferris (which was super expensive) Kelsey's dad just went to Lowe's and bought the stuff we needed and we're going to put it together ourselves. We also got some awesome colored paint (lime green and blue) instead of just lame wood stain. We have everything figured out (like who is going to bring what) and now the only thing we have to look forward to is actually moving in.

Because of my short summer (and limited budget), I haven't really done very extensive shopping for college. Most of the things that I bought for my dorm came from Dollar General or Meijer. I think the thing that I am most excited about that I bought is my laundry hamper. That sounds really lame, but it's pretty cool. Instead of getting an actual hamper, I got this thing that's like a backpack. That way I don't have to lug a stupid hamper down to the laundry room. I can just put all my stuff I need in this, put it on my back and head down there... way easier than the other way....

Okay. So I guess I wouldn't say that's what I'm most excited about, but hey, it's pretty cool.

I've gotten almost all of my dorm shopping done. All I have left to get is a mirror, a fan, and my hair dryer and straightener. (I have a younger sister so she's going to keep the ones that I used before and I get to get new ones =] )

It's getting down to the last few days, and I'm getting pretty anxious. I can't wait to move in and get away from my annoying little sister. (she's only a year younger than me and we are total opposites so we never get along)
